Chiropractic care treats a patient's neuromusculoskeletal system including the bones, nerves, muscles, tendons and ligaments. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments to maintain optimal alignment to assist in managing back and neck pain.

What is the role of a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors examine a patient's spine and muscle reflexes as part of their evaluation. They may also conduct tests and take x-rays to identify the patient's illness, after which they devise a treatment plan and track the patient's progress.

Chiropractors do not recommend pain relief; instead, they rely on and support the body's natural healing abilities. A chiropractor's main treatment is spinal manipulation, which involves applying force to a joint in the spine with their hands or instruments, shifting the joint in a specific direction for improved alignment.

Chiropractors may use various therapies in addition to spinal manipulation, such as:

  • Relaxation

  • Stimulation

  • Treatment with heat and cold

  • Exercise

  • Diet and weight-loss advice

Chiropractors will sometimes use massage treatment, ultrasound, braces, and shoe inserts to help reduce discomfort.

What to expect from a Chiropractor?

Your chiropractor will analyze your health history and physical condition on your initial visit. This appointment will take a little longer than usual, so plan on spending 45-60 minutes in the office.

Visit for the Initial Assessment

Many disorders can be detected by obtaining a comprehensive history and listening to the patient's story. Make sure to tell your chiropractor about any previous medical ailments you've had and any current symptoms you're experiencing, so they can pinpoint the source of your discomfort.

Comprehensive Examination

In addition to knowing your medical history, it's critical to assess your body's present physical status with a thorough and focused physical examination that will help you identify the source of your problem. This examination may include range of motion tests, postural assessments, gait assessments, neurological exams, orthopedic testing and other tests.

Conclusions

Your Chiropractor will analyze your results and explain what they found to be the main cause of your issues after your thorough examination. This is also a good time to ask your chiropractor questions and express any concerns you may have. Our chiropractors will recommend a personalized treatment plan that will help you achieve your health and well-being objectives. We are your partners in your treatment at Unity Spine and Health, thus we will always ask for your permission before we treat you.

If deemed appropriate and safe for your specific condition, you can expect treatment. Manual therapy, home exercises, and advice may be used as part of your custom-tailored treatment plan.
